Hi all and sundry,

It has not been easy to open the site because of Turkish hacker! But everything is going to be fantastic at the moment.

Let's go straight to the point.

Who are they?  >>> Could/can you tell me who they are?
What's your name? >>> I don't know what your name is.

How about the following?

Who is in the room? >>>

Whose book is that? >>>

Thanks beforehand

Hi Jupiter,

Who is in the room? >>> Could/can you tell me who is in the room? ("who" functions as a subject interrogative pronoun)

Whose book is that? >>> Could you tell me whose book that is?

Please make sure that in the indirect questions above the clauses follow the form of "Subject + verb....". But in questions, as you know, they follow something different.

Who + Verb................? e.g. Who talked to you? Who killed her? Who made you sad?
Whose + noun + verb.........? e.g. Whose book is it?
Whose + noun + auxiliary verb+ Subject + verb? e.g. Whose book do you like?

Hey Jupiter and Kounila, Cheesy

Jupiter, I think the point that you want to mention is not about Direct/Indirect Question, but Embeded Question. And my answers are:

-Who is in the room? >>>  I wonder who is in the room.
-Whose book is that? >>>  Do you know whose book that is?

The form of Embeded Question is always Sub + V as Kounila mentioned.

Just some ideas,

Hey...Kalyan,

That's a funny language....

The two sentences your cousin said to you make me think he must be quite young  .  When I say them loudly, I feel it sounds as if I didn't have a tooth.
