You like MANGA? One of a famous Japanese comic.

You know I never spend my money for a stupid joke book like high school students think it’s so popular. But would not want to see the comics disappear.

Comic books were popular in the mid sixties and early seventies by the large number of Cambodian youth and young adults. But since the Khmer Rouges came to power, few comics survived and many illustrators were killed.

In 2006, Our Books is Cambodia’s first, registered, local NGO working on the development of comic book art. Our Books produces comics that will function as both entertainment and education within Cambodia. The NGO’s first project was ‘Life Choices‘ a 48-page comic that discusses the challenges youth may face regarding corruption then recently published ‘The Flower of Battambang’.

The organization hope for the future of comics in Cambodia, they see talented generation of developing artists emerging, and comics can play a crucial role in the country’s literary development.

In my view, I do love reading comic than watching Cambodian drama, also believe the illustrators will create more comics on legends, romance and comedy.

One of these days I see not many kids go for Mangas or comics. They go for Cartoon Network.

Hahahah Yeah MANGA!! most of boys love it... especially NARUTO, the most popular. But they prefer to watch directly from youtube.
For me, the most comic I like is Doraemon series. hehehe.. you know a little bit girlie stuff. But for many years, I couldn't find 1 in every library. No more. I don't know if it's available in Monument Book or not. But if it had, bet it must be so expensive! I would bury myself to buy the books over there. haha

Life Choice?? Well, I never heard. Is this comic written in khmer language or english?  What's about Tam Tam? Mom & Mab and the other one, I didn't remember?! I do like reading it when I was young. But why no more again???

Mmm By the way, I enjoy reading fictions, comics and our popular khmer legends... more than watching drama, though.

Denith, in Cambodia yes. But not in other countries. They mostly have good habit of reading comics more than watching Cartoon Network. Even they already watched from youtube, they also enjoy reading over again with their comic books and sometime the same section with the same episode they watched in youtube.

Seriously, Manga is fun when you're trying to read from right to left. He he he..
Watching through Youtube actually suck due to the internet speed we're using, terrible!
Life Choices is now available in Khmer, English and French. You can find at IBC just $2. Of cause both Tam Tam and Mom & Mab are still alive, I see my little cousin really get a kick on to Tam Tam's books. " it's second to none " she told me.

Shame! I know nothing in Chinese!

Me either. Embarrassed

Comic books are really entertaining. I have been reading them since i was a child and they provided me so many vocabulary and expressions that i am curently using. From ARCHIE Comics, X-men, and to several MANGA titles. Comics from newspapers and editorials provide entertainment and makes you appreciate the humor behind those short scripts. Smiley
