Hi

Mostly one word works as a Noun and Verb, and it is pronounced in different STRESS.

Any IDEAS to define the rules of making Stress to such kind of words?

Thanks for your Great, Detail Answers

Hello Snare,

This is a very good question indeed. I have ever noticed this point but failed to figure out the rules of them. I'd be very happy if others of our friends here know the rules of the stresses on those words.

I noticed a few words like below...
- (noun) progress...'pro-gress
- (verb) progress...pro-'gress

- (noun) protest...'pro-test
- (verb) protest...pro-'test

Hmm..again, Snaren, it's an interesting question because it's probably something many of us non-native speakers have missed getting to know for some time.

I dare say there aren't any specific rules to intonate, stress or pronoun such words in English! The best way to do so is to remember or notify how they are stressed while esp. native speakers have a speak. Besides, we can eat it up by checking it out in dictionaries.
