Gov't cancels Miss Cambodia 2006 contest

Dear Friends:

There is still doubt to me in some reason that why we Cambodia never have a Miss Beauty pageant more then a decade? I beleive some of you would have read the CambodiaDaily Newspaper today that the Government have canceled the Miss Cambodia 2006 contest regards to the lake ability of the company hosting the contest. Some says that they feel sad as the world will never know Cambodian and its culture, and some says that they appriciate the decision. The government's budget should be applied to solve Cambodia's economic and social problems and says the contest is just help the rich and the powerful men and women find their new partner. What do you think about this?

Well... I agree with de idea that:

In my opinion, i think de cancelling is appreciated!

Hey, Kalyan, i agree with you completely. There are some reasons hidden in this. It's important to know that just doing that doesn't mean to let many people know our culture. That's not really a way!!

there are many ways to express our culture to de world! Let's think. Doing this is not appreciated for my at all... I am not sure about de rest but i think that it is much better to cancel!

But 1 thing that we can not believe is in missworld 2006 contest it got miss cambodia she from Kom Pong cham province her name Soun Srey Mom i think alot fo cambodian people don know that but for me i was watch on Star world chanel i saw and m so suprise with that  if u not believe me please go to www.missworld.com :?:  :?:  :idea:  :idea:  :roll:

Hey Samath, me too. I have seen Miss Cambodian on StarWorld while they advertised Miss World Contest program on chanel. Unfortunately, I didn't have chance to watch the final contest.
Of course, it surprised me too. Never believe that we are able to do so.

Moreover, during that period (Miss World Contest), there was a program for all people to vote for their favorite. You know what? I'm so disappointed that there was no local number for Cambodian people to vote even Miss Cambodian has joined the contest. Pretty bad! :x

Hey guys,  

 I read about the decision to not have a Miss Cambodia contest and thanks for the discussion which you guys have had about it. I think, it is great that this decision was made in defence of Cambodian culture and traditions.

 However, I am a bit confused though, as in the recent Miss World pageant, held in Germany, there was one competitor representing Cambodia. How can that be possible if there is no qualification competition allowed.
