Hmm... for my advise:
1. Read much. As you read, try to notice some key words. Key words are words that mostly appear inside the text (Apart from preposition), and words with are closely related to the topic. Write them down, note them or highlight them. Get your dictionary, look for its meaning, memorize it and leave it behind for a time-being. Do the same thing for a new key word. When finish reading, try to write down what you have noticed, with definitions. Try to see how much can you remember. And, try that method again after finishing reading for like 24 hours. Offtopic: According to Psychology, a human can remember something well for the first 48 hours after recognition, in the case that he/she doesn't try to review what he has learned, the memory will slowly fade, and in one week, he will have little image of what he has learned. So, think for yourself.
2. Like the 1 story, when reading and encounter new words, write it down. This time, try to find at least 3 example sentence with include those words or that word (one by one). Offtopic: In dictionary, for one certain word, you will find different usages of it. So, try to find example for each usage.
3. To get better image of that word, try to think of that word in mind. I know this difficult. Offtopic: Imagination helps memory... and gaining full understanding to one certain words. Such as the word: Skyscraper... which means tall big building. Imagine!
4. Try to speak loudly, or even shout, those words for at least 5 times. Do it again after 24 hours of recognition. Offtopic: Don't be too lazy... its like when you to sing one song, after singing one certain song for many times, you will remember all its content.
Yeah, that's all i got.
