Good evening, Paul !!  Cheesy
It will be very necessary for me to get to know about iBT TOEFL from this helpful website; therefore, I am looking forward receiving some good advices from u as well as other helpful members about how to get high score with this new iBT TOEFL. I do agree that the New Testing system is extremely different and difficult because I have already taken the iBT TOEFL preparation course at RUPP and it is difficlult.  :?
Anyways, thanks so much for ur concerning about TOEFL as well as IELTS. It's very useful for most of English learners.
Let's talk about that later.

Hey nit_bpg,

We will be having some information on iBT on this website very shortly, the skills it requires are very academic in nature and really the team at 5steps do believe that it can only be taught to you properly by a teacher with a lot of test preparation teaching experience. Test preparation is a specialised area of English language teaching and is an area I have been actively been involved with for 7 years.

By the way, I would love to know : What was your course like at RUPP? Was it taught by native speakers or Cambodian teachers? Which book did you use? What methods did they use for teaching you the skills? Do you feel you improved a lot?  Was it based mainly on practice rather than specific teaching of English language skills in direct relation to the test in order to make practice more effective?

I have been teaching TOEFL for 5 years, mainly in Cambodia, I teach TOEFL to Korean and Japanese students, so I have a lot of experience of the old test and I am currently developing a curriculum for the iBT which will give students practical academic skills training. The integrated skills part of the iBT makes it slightly harder than IELTS, although it seems that IELTS skills are a good starting point as they are primarily Independent skills. The move to Integrated skills can only be taken if the student is able to complete Independent skills successfully first. It seems to me that one leads to the other.

Hope to get some more information from you soon dude,  Cheesy

 Have fun,

 Paul

Good morning, Paul!

Well, you seem to be interested in this new generation TOEFL iBT.
I do agree that it is important to be taught by experienced teachers in order to succeed iBT TOEFL. Anyways, at RUPP, I am not quite sure if the teachers are qualified or not but they are all Cambodian teachers. Mainly, they are the teachers from IFL. However, I think they use a new method for this new TOEFL preparation course. They conduct the course in a Computer lap where all the students permit to use Computer effectively. At the beginning of the 4skills teaching, all of the teachers gave us a diagnostic pretest in order to test our ability. Well, that was a good idea to do so. Furthermore, we are mainly focusing on practise rather than specific teaching of English language skills. But they also teach us about the Introduction first and then we are demanded to practise later on. They also provide us an Interactive Software, which was created by LONGMAN, to practise on our own.
Anyways, I haven't reached to the Intergrated task yet coz now we're still learning about the Independent task. Of course, the Intergrated task is the most difficult part of this iBT TOEFL. I am waiting to see how difficult it is.
By the way, I think it is still useful to get some more Tips from the tremendous wepsite, especially from you, Paul.
I am looking forward to paticipate in this forum.

Have funnnn too  Cheesy

Hey nit_btg,  Cheesy

I am very interested in the new iBT TOEFL as I want to be able to give the right advice and help to the members on this website. I have also taught TOEFL in the past in both India and Thailand.

I recently visited Vietnam again and there are now a lot of new iBT books out there for practice exercises, and it is great that you are getting a lot of computer practice and exercise practice on your course. However, do make sure that you are being trained in the specific English language SKILLS required to pass. This means improving your abilities in each of the macro-skills in order to do better on the exam. Getting familiar with the test layout and doing practice is good, but you still need to fundamentally improve your English skills to achieve a high score.

The independent tasks are easier than the integrated, which are going to be very hard for all Cambodian students. They are multi-tasking in nature and are very academically challenging.

More help coming on here soon dude,  Cheesy

Have fun,

 Paul

PS- Keep me updated on your course and how you approach integrated tasks.
