Hey Senny,
Thanks for a great question! Time management is so important when we are taking exams. You must be able to complete all the tasks in the time allowed. It is interesting that the main reason that students do not do as well as they could on the IELTS test is that they often run out of time and do not finish all the tasks. This is especially the case in the Writing and Reading tasks, where it is upto the student to manage his time exactly in order to finish the tasks.
It is therefore a great idea to make sure that you have a watch with you if you are taking any exam and make sure that you are strict on yourself with following the timings that you need to keep! In IELTS Reading, it is necessary to do 3 reading tasks in 1 hour, this is not so easy and most students find that they don't have enough time to finish passage 3. The solution to this is to be strict on the timings and if you are over time, just guess and move onto the next passage. For the Writing, it is necessary in IELTS to do two writing tasks in one hour, and this is also not that easy to do! If you fall behind here, then you will not have enough time to finish. It is therefore recommended that you split the time between the two tasks and try to stick to those timings as much as you possibly can. It is usually recommended to spend 20 minutes on task one and 40 minutes on task two.
Time is the number one enemy in any examination and therefore practice before when you are at home doing tasks to a set timing. This gives you the practice of time management during the actual exam itself!
Time is the thing we are all given the same amount of, so use all your time well to study hard and improve your English language skills!
Have fun,
