 Hey phina  Grin

There are many ielts books on the market to practise for the test, some cheap and good ones can be found at Angkor Bookshop, on street 130 near Central Market. You should become famililar with the test structure and what you have to do in order to get a good score. It does take a lot of practice and you should try to practice reading and listening as much as you can! Also, please keep looking on the forum for supporting advice and ideas from other ielts students. There will be at least one 5steps book for ielts coming out in late April, so this should also be useful for you to look out for and get!

IDP is the only test centre in Phnom Penh, and the test is expensive at 150usd, so you need to make sure you are fully prepared instead of just giving over your money. All the practice test material is good and you should only pay to do the test when you feel that you can achieve a good score.

IELTS high score above 6 can help you with scholarship applications, should you decide to go abroad to study. Also it is now used by some employers as a standard of English for job applications too. Although, 5steps do not believe that IELTS is a test of English for the job market. It is primarily a test of Academic English and there are better tests out there to assess Business English skills for the job market.

IELTS is a British English test, although there is now IELTS Australia, which is more australian. The accents used in the listening will mainly be British or Australian, but sometimes they are American. The simple rule is that if you are doing iBT TOEFL then US English is best, but for IELTS then British or Australian English is best.

I am sure that if you study at AII institute it could be good. I don't know much about the school, but learning English is more about your effort and using your teachers as your support network. In this way, studying English at any school is better than not studying anywhere!

There are lots of tips in this forum under : tips and techniques and have a look around and you will find far more tips there than i could possibly write here.

 Hope that helps,  Grin

 Have fun, Wink

 Paul
