I don't know whether someone else is having the same problem as mine, to me to communicate with native speaking involving with my career where I know the subject and what they sould say, I have no problem at all to understand and response but poor me where I'm very hard to understand native speaking on the TV just CNN/HBO/AXN/etc,,, let say i only can understand around 30-50%,,,,

Paul, everyone, please advice or share from the what you know and learnt I would be much very appreciated.

(I have tried to improve my listening skill through music, computer software but still,,,)

I found it hard too,
yep, CNN,HBO...... it's kinda difficult one cuz they use technic words on the news... and also, when they spoke fast!!!! dfkafaakfd@$$(%^!*(*)(...!!@#$#@@..(let me sorry for this point, just an active for ya) oh so fast!!

How can we know all the meaning?

Understand around 50% to 80% is such a successful for listener too, cuz we're not a native.
My ex-teacher at my old school say that no one can know all the meaning of English, except native.

Not only hard to understand their speaking but also their writting style too.

AM I SAY WRONG?Huh? OR WAS HE(MY EX-TEACHER) SAY WRONG??

IF there any idea, plz post now!.
 :?  :?

Thanks,
from kid!

Hi mana  Cheesy

I DON'T agree with "No one can know all the meaning of English, except native." Do u know all the meaning of Khmer? For me, I don't.

Are u wrong? The answer is Huh. Your ex-teacher said something wrong and you report the wrong thing, so I would say u are wrong too.

No one know all the meaning of his/her language. right or wrong?

Hope to get some more ideas,  Smiley

Hello everybody,

Really, each language has a huge number of vocabulary. Each person or native speaker cannot really know or remember all. I agree with Jupiter that even native speakers, like us Cambodians, cannot know all the vocabulary of our language. We can simply produce sentences or speeches for everyday communication. If we forget any word, we can consult a dictionary  .

Finally, I think that not native speakers know all the words or meanings of their language.

I hope nobody is wrong! Failure teaches success!!!!

take care

We should proud of ourself to be Asian people at least we known more than 2 languages and people like us never stop thriving for knowledges,,, Cheesy

Return to my topic I just wish to be shared on how to improved the way of our listening skill to be much more better from those who have experienced it.   Cheers

Hi Carolina,
I have an idea on how to improve our listening skill.
As you mentioned above, you would understand the context if you are in it, so if you want to understand more (50%+) about what they are saying: why don't you try to read the news on news paper first. Then step by step you will be able to understand most of what they are talking about.
How about movie? You should read the cover of the DVD first to understand the whole story so that during the play, we would understand better about the story and what the actors are talking about too.
The same with music!!!
The same with Discovery channel!!
!!!!

One day, you will find yourself understand more than some native speaker.!!!

Saying this, I'm not a good reader or listener. I'm just a soccer match fan. Cheesy

Good luck with your endeavor
