Remember that Like and Alike have the same meaning, but Like is used between the two nouns compared, and Alike is used after the two nouns or a plural noun.
Ex1. This coat is like that one.
Ex2. This coat and that one are alike.
Ex3. These cots are alike.[/i]

Hi HolyGangsta,

Your explanation is great. Now we learn something new and we will be careful about it. So, in my humble view, we can conclude that "Like" is a preposition and "Alike" is an adjective?

What do you think?

I think the explanation of LIKE and ALIKE are not clear enough.

If my membery serve me rite ALIKE can funtion as adj and adv.

Ex:The Mala and Mana look very alike. (adj)

All the 5steps members are treated alike. (adv)

For LIKE can funtion as adv, conj, noun, verb, adj, prep and sufffix I think.

Ex: All people have different likes and dislikes.(noun)

ABC behaves like she owns this website.( conj, means the same as if)
One one is able to sing like SIN SISAMUTH did.(conj)

I like expressing my ideas out.(verb)

Do you know how Paul look like?( adj)

Your ideas is like mind. (prep)

The web 5steps is very useful for English learners. Like they participate in asking and aswering questions. (adv)

      His behavor is childlike (suff)

If you want to talk about the different use of the both, like and alike, is that  like can be used before noun while alike can never be used before any nouns.

Just some ideas, welcome more!!

Hi Kimlong,

Well, HolyGangsta only gave an explanation of "Like and Alike" when they have the same meaning but different parts of speech. Now you gave complete information about "Like and Alike".

Alike is an adjective, but it stands after verbs like "be, seem, look....".
Like is a preposition, so a noun or pronoun...can be used after "like".
