Hi Supreme, your name is a bit pretty nice!

I think you must have a look in Headway Advance, is it right? That is why you have the concept of breaking the law in English.

Yes, to write correctly spelling sometime we have to understand about all the breaking rules in English, but not all the time according to English consist of many exceptional cases.

So I mean to write English words accurately, we have to understand the broken rules like you mentioned (put i befor e except after c, friend, however, they spell weigh or weight, with e befor i) and another is to practice writing much. If you are not sure about any word don't just carry on your writing please take a look in dictionaries to make sure your spelling is 100% right.

To enhance listening skill is to practice listen. To promote our capability in listening is to good at reading and understanding. To good at reading and understanding is to improve our vocabularies capacity.
Practice makes perfect!

I optimistically believe that just follow the above steps you will find it workable for your trouble.

Just ideas, please wait for others'

HI Kimlong and Supreme!

Sure, spelling is very difficult! I am one of those who face this problem. But, fortunately I have Ms Word helps me correct my spelling. Unfortunately it can't work without the Computer. If any one know a good book of spelling method, please let me know. Thank for that.

Cheesy Thanks Kimlong and Poch. Oh by the way my name is not Supreme. Foreigners can't pronoun it and when they do they come up with something sounds like Supreme.

What about speaking skill?
Is there any magic skill to it?

Kimlong, you are right. However i can't just check mr. Dictionary for the spelling all the time. You know i want to be best at spelling.

I think you are right again. Practice make perfection

thanks! Smiley

The four skills, reading, speaking, listening and writing, in English are relevant. We can't perform it better if we are weak in one skill. I mean to perfect in English language learning is to good at these fours. It depents to each other.

Your trouble is to enhance speaking skill, isn't it? It is very easy to so if one can determine himself or actually want to.

First of all, we have to think what is the root to promote the four skill. I think it is vocabulary, aren't i right? Having observed some time, I have found that vocabulary is one of the most important roots in learning English. If you have a poor capability of using or understanding vocabulary, you will lose in your English learing.

You have, for instance, extremely good ideas to spell out to the audiences while making a speech, unfortunately you lack of what is the English words equal to the Khmer meaning you want to show.

One more, when you have a conversation with others, esp. foreigners, in case you can't catch the meaning of what your partners say, how you perform your speaking effectively?

Moreover, If you are poor in vocabulary how you can read and understand any contexts.

Secondly, to promote this, is to learn to practice speaking. I dare to categorize it to two kinds, internal and external. Inernal I`refer to we speak to ourselves (in front of mirror,...) while enternal refers to speak to others( friends, teachers, siblings, foreigners...). For whom who are diffident, internal is very handy.

To sum up, Vocabulary is the thing improvizes your speaking. And as long as the knowledge and know-how of using vocabulary we exist, the better we perform our speaking.

The more we speak, the fluent speaking we are! The more we watch, listen and read, the more we get ideas to speak!

Just idea!

@ Kimlong: you have a very good vocabulary! Congratulations!

My weakness is that when I listen to IELTS, someone spells his/her name, I cant catch all of the correct name because of some disgusting letters like p/b, s/x. It is hard to recognise them when they are spoken too fast for me to hear.

Well, I just hate myself for not improving Reading and Listening as well as possible cause they are the easiest skills which can enhance your IELTS band
Many people can improve these 2 skills. Well, would you mind giving me your advice to improve 2 skills, plz?

My target score is 7! Not too high

The 'i before e' rule is not complete- see here for a fuller discussion: http://www.usingenglish.com/weblog/archives/000021.html

Unfortunately, English comes from a mixture of languages, so there are different spelling systems at work, which means that most rules break down fairly quickly.  However, do remember that native speakers have trouble spelling too. ;-)
