That Night market is a failure for sure if the prices of goods keep being jacked up like that. Those sellers don't have a conscious sense of guilt when they sell stuff at unbelievably expensive prices. ...Well...I don't blame them...just look at how the house values in Phnom Penh and other cities have gone up like there's no tomorrow. I'm not an economist, but i can see that INFLATION is about to reach the level most Cambodians cannot withstand their barely survivable living style. Just look at the poors...dont glue your eyes at those MErcedes, BMW, Ford, Chevrolet, Land Cruiser,... these luxurious things can't mask the true reality of Cambodia as one of the poorests.

Again, we have to boycott, not to shop at the night market if the prices are not reasonable. Let your voice and feeling be heard and felt. They will adjust their way of doing business when they know it doesn't work the way they're doing right now.
Tell lyou the truth, I don't even shop at Sorya. I think the prices there are cut-throat too. I go there only to eat once in while, not to mention to see people(hmm...pretty girls to be exact) shopping. To get good deal, you can go to Psa Tuol Tompoong, Psa Olympic, Psa Orussey...

And if you don't want people to think that you only window-shopping (shop without buying anything) at Psa Sorya, you can carry stuff that you bought at Olympic or psa thmei around Psa Sorya.

After all, it's about face. We all want to buy stuff at Expensive stores so that we can look COOL. But that's a very naive thing to do if we barely afford to do so. Shop smart, Live smart, Study smart, Eat smart, and Flirt smart. Your life will be in nirvana..

AND when you don't know what an English word that you see means, CHECK smart. SInce you're already online, use the free online dictionary to check what the heck that word means and how it is used in a sentence. Then you will have saved one more word in your lazy, forgetful brain...only when you're not very interested.

Forgive me if what i said above were not funny...I kinda know how it is if it's not funny.

Love you all,

Pros_DingDong

Your words seems to support the poor ones! Accordingly, let me ask you one question, do all or most of the items producer who sell at Night Market are mostly rich?

I don't say who's wrong or right at all. What I wrote just to respond the asked questions which concerning that the price was so unexpectably high.

They have, I dare say, only this fantastic chance to rise their price, so let them do. One more thing, their customers target are the riches. If we want to buy such products with low price please wait till the special festival pass.

If I'm wrong, I'm sorry.

Hi Kimlong,

You are right. The night market is a great opportunity for poor people to make some money. I definitely am happy to see them making more money.

But you only see it from the point of view of a seller. In fact, doing is business is all about the overall profit.
If the sellers didn't sell stuff at very high prices, I'm sure they would make much more profit by first making customers feel comfortable with their prices, second increasing the sales, and third attracting more people to come to the market not just to visit but to shop.

I don't know if you remember what happened at Kean Svay many years ago. The owners of the resorts there always tried to hide the prices of the foods and charged much more than the foods were worth somewhere else. It angered many PP people. And as a result, Kean Svay was quiet for a while until the resort owners there changed their attitudes in doing their businesses.

The way the sellers at the Night Market do business now is unintentional self-destructive.
Do you think there would be that many foreigners and riches who will spend a lot on something they can get much cheaper at local markets? I guess foreigners now are smart too.

I hate to see the poors getting poorer. I want to see the poors getting smarter in doing business for long term.

Cheers,

Pros_DingDong

I'm elated to see such your ideas, PRos! But in doing business, Price expectation always takes part in the brain of sellers or producers!! It doesn't mean that they don't know exactly how to do business, yet in contrast they can perform such activities related to the general business theory correctly and unconsciously!

Although, we have whatever different, but our end of the topic is the same!

Nice to have a talk with you guy!

Love,
