Hello Bigguy,

Undecided Doing a fast reading and understand the whole thing is not easy. It needs to take a great deal of time. If you want to read fastly, you have to practice reading everyday. The important thing is you start something that is appropriate for your level of English, not something too difficult.

Also, when we skim, we will understand the general idea of the text, not all the detail. So, it is very common that when you skim, you get only 60% to 80% of the information. Don't feel bad about it. Wink

 Hey greeny,  Grin

Very good advice there about Reading for da Bigguy. It is very true that you should start reading something that is appropriate for your level of English, not something too difficult. That way you remain confident and you don't 'bite off more than you can chew'.

Bigguy, don't get disappointed, as far as IELTS is concerned, it is better to get familiar with the question types and the format of the reading exam rather than worrying about understanding all the reading texts. The IELTS reading has 3 sections and is approximately 2700 words, and most students find that they have trouble understanding between 700-1000 words. Therefore, try to practice hunting for the questions and developing some strategies for answering the IELTS reading question types as well as trying to improve your overall reading skills.

 Have fun,  Wink
