Hey Lil Fix,
Here is a summary of the main conditionals in English
Zero Conditional (0) General truths or facts
If water is one hundred degrees celcius, it boils
It is formed by using Present Simple + Present Simple
First Conditional (1) Future Prediction
If it rains, I will get wet
It is formed by using Present Simple + will + verb Stem
Second Conditional (2) Imaginary event or hypothetical event
If I won the lottery, I would buy a car
It is formed by V2 ( Past Simple ) + would + verb Stem
Third Conditional (3) Imaginary event in the past
If I had won the lottery, I would have bought a car
It is formed by Past Perfect Simple + would + Present Perfect Simple
Mixed Conditionals are also possible......where you mix the forms of the conditionals. THese are very difficult to master and are almost native speaker level English. Here is an example.
If I win the lottery, I would buy a car
It is formed by V1 ( Present Simple ) + would + verb Stem
This is mixing the first and second conditionals and is used to decrease the element of possibility. If I win the lottery, I will buy a car- this is slightly more definate than using would.
A tip/trick here is to use MODAL VERBS to enhance the idea of possibility within the conditional
Here you can use MAY, MIGHT or COULD instead of WILL and WOULD in both the 1st and 2nd conditional to add a possibility to it.
Example....
1st conditional ( modal ) If I win the lottery, I could buy a car
2nd conditional ( modal ) If I won the lottery, I might buy a car.
Hope that helps a bit!
Have fun guys,
