Dear all members:
When you are looking for clues to the meaning of a word in context, one of the following types of contextual clues will help you.

1. Straight definitions : In some cases where there is an unusual word, adefinition of the word in given close by. Try to understand the definition and apply it to the word in context.

2. Parapharases or synonyms: Look for possibility of another word or phrase in the context that has the same meaning.

3. Inplied meaning: In some contexts, direct clues are not given but just implied. In this case you must think about the context and guess what the meaning of the word can be. Even if you connot dermine its exact meaning, yoiu will be able to dermine its general meaning.

Note: Everytime you read, practice looking for contextual clues. This will encourage you to analyze the meaning of what you read, and will also train you think words and their meaning.

I think will help you for reading skill.

Have fun Wink

Dear John Edward,

Wow, your name sounds like a prince in a story. Wink I like it.
Those are really interesting techniques, I really appreciate it. But it'd be greater if those are explained in more details included some examples.

WOW!

Those are great ideas in improving reading, aren't they? But I have one problem. If I read a book and I don't know vocabularies Huh How can I know the words by their contexts? How can I even know their implied meaning?

Please, is there any good tips to deal with it?

Thank you,

Poch

It isn't hard. Just look around the unknown words you are reading in a book like a novel. Two words that you carrry with you all the time is "I can". If this way doesn't work, don't bother about it. Check the unknown words in the dictionary or if you don't want, try to guess the meaning yourself. Cheesy
