Hey Saosoraya,  Smiley

Can you let me know which scholarship or financial assistance you are applying for and then I will let you know what score you need.

The scoring system for the iBT is different than the CBT or PBT, I will include a conversion table and an update on this site for you guys soon,

 Have fun,

 Hey guys,  Grin

We will be having an iBT special on LOVE FM next Wednesday 24th January for those of you who are interested in finding out more about the test and where you can take it. The show will involve some tips and techniques about the iBT TOEFL as well as what the scores mean and how the iBT test is different that the previous PBT and CBT tests. The 5steps team are also running some free seminars in Februay and March 2007 in Phnom Penh, so if you want to come to these, send and sms to the 5steps helpline on 012 639 686 to book your free place. The tutor for the free seminars will be me.  Wink

One thing everyone should know is that the new iBT Toefl is harder than the old one and you will need a good test prep teacher to get the score you want. The 5steps team is currently designing new curriculum and keep loggin in to get news on the upcoming 5steps projects which will have a big focus on the iBT.

 Have fun,  Wink

Hi Sophina,

As far as an essay is concerned, a thesis statement is a very important thing you look for in an essay. I'm sorry I don't understand "preditor" very clearly but I can guess and understand what you are asking.

For example, in a thesis statement we have three important things/topics to talk about like "monkey, fish, heron", we will have to describe each topic in the body paragraphs. This essay should take three paragraphs for the body. And then the whole essay should consist of 5 paragraphs.  Grin

Just some ideas. Smiley

Hi Sophina and keosomala,

I strongly agree with Keosomala. Thesis statements is very important in an essay.

Anyway, apart from the thesis statements, we can have a lot more topic sentences in our essay. Thesis statement covers the whole essay; it tells the readers what the whole essay is about. Each topic sentences cover each paragraphs. Topic sentence tells readers what the paragraph is about.

 Hey guys,  Grin

The thesis statement is the most important sentence in an essay, especially an Academic Essay. The word 'thesis' is a Greek word and translates as 'question'. So a thesis statements should really express what you think about the question.  Roll Eyes

The idea of using the thesis statement to do a summary of the topic sentences of the body paragraphs is one way to do it, and is suitable for longer essays, in which you write lots of paragraphs in the body. These are usually Academic essays, which are written for University and are 500 words or more in length. However, for timed essays in exams ( IELTS / TOEFL ), it is a better approach to use the thesis statement to 'take a stand' or 'make a decision' about the topic you are asked. That way, the thesis statement clearly shows the examiner your point of view, which is then supported by the evidence you will present in the body paragraphs.

Different strokes for different folks!  Grin

 Have fun,  Wink

How to get a high score in TOEFL OR IELTS EXAM?
Many Gov't employee are low in TOEFL OR IELTS TEST, they need the high score to pass the abroad scholarship. If they can get the scholarship, they will come to develop cambodia after their return. Do any one know the clue to help them?

 Hey Victor, Grin

The way to get a high score on IELTS and iBT TOEFL is practice, practice and then some more practice. You need to understand the format of the test and understand clearly what tasks you have to complete during the exam. I would recommend that you try to get a book on IELTS or iBT TOEFL to get you started and then you will have a better idea of what is expected during the test.

Once you have familiarised yourself with the test, you can then look in the forums for tips and ideas from other students as well as continue to practise some of the exercises from the books yourself at home.

The tests are expensive to take, so do make sure you are ready to do the test before you pay the money. If you just want to see what the test is like, it is much cheaper to buy a book and then do a practice test from the book to see if your English is good enought to attempt the test.

For tips on Speaking and Writing, you can buy the new 5steps book on IELTS test, which is available from Angkor Bookshop, near Central Market, for 2USD. This book contains lots of useful speaking examples and lots of good ideas for how to get ideas when you write essays.

 Hope that helps Vincent! Grin

 Have fun, Wink
