I do know that it is in writing part but I think that it is important in writhing.
Sometime we might have trouble with it ..
so what are the differences between these sentences:
1  John has a new computer.
2  The new computer is John's.
3  This new computer is to John.

In the first, we're talking primarily about John.  In the second, we're talking about the computer.  The third doesn't work.

Yes they are completely different among the three! It is easier understand by taking a look or the clues bellow:

1  John has a new computer. Mean that the speaker is a bit surprised with what Jonh has because last time never does Jonh consist such thing ( It's possible that he himself buy or someone else buys for him).

2  The new computer is John's. It should be answer the question " Whose this new computer is it". It infers to find the owner of the computer.

3  This new computer is to John. It suggests that someone buy Jonh a new computer. For example:

Long: Hey Seangheng, you are just back from Japan, do you have anything for me and Jonh?

Seangheng: Yes I do! This radio is for you!

Long: What about this new computer?

Seangheng: It is/ the new computer is for ( or to) Jonh!

That's it!!

Thank you so much Kimlong and Tdol.
But the thing is that for number two does it mean that we can say one possesion without using noun after it.
This computer is John's. NOt This  computer is John posession. And sentence 3: This new computer is to John.
But not this computer is belong to John.

Sentence 3: This new computer is to John.
This sentence can't stand alone, but I think we can use it like this.

This printer is to be given to David, this television is to Jane, and this new computer is to John.

The best sentence in this circumstance is to write like what you have written " This new computer is Jonh's". 's means or shows possession.

In the third sentence, you are actual can write so, but it suggests different from the original one. I mean if you a sentence is written " This new computer is to Jonh" it infers that Jonh doesn't know that he has or owns the computer, or we can say someone buys for him unconsciously.

Yet if it is written " This computer is belong to Jonh", it means that Jonh have already known that he 100% gets the computer. Or We can say that Jonh is the onwer of the thing.

Thank you so much Kimlong and other friends for sharing me . Regarding the word " belong" it is a verb so we better not use " To be " .
It is all I want to say !
Have fun!

It should be 'This computer belongs to John'.  We do not normally use verbs that show ownership in the progressive form. Wink
