Hey guys,
DTEFLA is an English language teaching qualification that is higher than CELTA. The CELTA is the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults and it is an intensive 1 month full time course for native-speakers who wish to become English language teachers. It is a qualification from Cambridge University in the U.K and if a teacher has the CELTA, it means he has undergone some intensive training in teaching methodology and more importantly in effective communicative language teaching practice. I have a CELTA as well as 7 years experience and next time I visit the U.K I will do the DELTA ( the new name for the DTEFLA).
The DELTA is the Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults and is a two month intensive full time program for teachers who already have the CELTA and a lot of previous experience. The old name was Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults. This course is focused more on theory and research and any teacher who holds this qualification is usually extremely well qualified and knowledgeable in the field.
Howard is a fantastic teacher, I used to teach with him in Thailand and we are very lucky to have him as part of the teaching team on the website. He has previous experience at the British Council ( one of the world's best English language schools, part of the British government. The British Council is in many countries worldwide but as yet unfortunately in Cambodia ).
I hope you guys can use Howard as a great learning resource as he has lots of great ideas and can give you some brilliant advice regarding learning English.
Hope that helps!
Have fun,
Paul
