For now, in some places, they make it equal for both IELTS and TOEFL, meaning you can have either one. But for some places, it sticks to one standard only. I think, you should know where you WANT to go. If you are looking forward for studying in US or UK, go for TOEFL. If you are going for Australia and NZ, go for IELTS. If none is native English country, then... I dont know what to say.

Hello Yivuoch,

I agree with Denith. You can take either IELTS or TOEFL but you have to determine the direction you want to go to.

One of the students at my department got a 2-year scholarship to a South Korean university. They demanded her good mark of her English. She got 7.5 in IELTS.

You can't really say TOEFL is BETTER. They are different standard, preferred my different regions. The point is its you who decide which standard suits you and where you are heading. If you are looking for a English standard for everyday use and daily conversation, you should look for TOEFL. But if you are looking to improve all four skills, go for IELTS. Hmm...
