I think City, country, street names, ect. are not difficult because you can always know them by the first capital letter, and we never translate those names. The hard thing in reading is the meaning/main idea of the paragraph or the whole article. You can always skip many unimportant vocabs if your reading purpose is to fine specific information, just like doing IELTS. However, it is not a good way if you read to learn vocab.

For City, country, street names, ect. i don't mean that i want to translate it but i have a problem if i read that name incorrect.
now For example : Ephenyl,..............
Hmm if we think only reading point is too easy easy.... that's easy..
but if we read and read in agood way, good speech in during a few second and don't know does it mean, how can?
especially, when we read the historic of any country, state, village...........
wow! so many words that i found it difficult to know the meaning, and sometime for the name of the city, street name,..etc, i think i read it in wrong way, wrong language.
As i used to say that sometime no words found in the DICTIONARY, cuz that words is in their language, how can we know???
For example : Phnom penh, Pchum Benh.. is you are a foreigner can you read it correct in Khmer language?
For reading skill is not difficult, but it's include in how much do you understand about what you are reading now!
that's all,

Hi mana & bk Cheesy

I'm here not to say who is wrong and who is right. I just want to express my view.
The name of city, country, or  foreign name... is not difficult for reading but for spelling and pronunciation, I think.

Reading is difficult or not depends on the context and what u read. If u read simple English, it's easy. However, if u read advanced English, it's NOT easy. Do u agree?

Compare these words Bye, Cheers, Farewell and Adieu. Which one is easy and which one is difficult. I hope Adieu is the most difficult for you and me.

Be optimistic, you can do if u think u can do.

Adieu

In fact! Reading is difficult, but if u guy just spend about 30 mins to 1 hour everyday in reading... sooner or later, your reading skill will be as good as an international students.. just remember one thing, whlie u are reading DO NOT put a dictionary near u or checking the meaning of the words u dont no....

hi all,

I agree with Mana that it is difficult to read the name of the people counry and ect.

But reading is not just to pronounce the words but there are much more to do with reading. For me it is true that everything that we don't know is difficult, but if something you know it is pretty easy as Jupiter mentioned.

To my ideas try to read not just to pronounce the words, but to chatch the meaning! Try to read from easy to difficult.

Remember that before you can get the top of the building you must step your first step. You can't fly like Superman does Right?

Just a few ideas,

Hi Jupi and ye all here!!!!!

I am glissful when i have heart ye talk over this issue.

I consent with yer, Mana, that we oft-times find difficulty pronuncing the name of Street, City, Place...

Yet, you have to remember that when we are reading to get the meaning or to sumerize those stories or contexts, we don't have to read it wrightly. The critical thing is to understand or get the hang of doing it is ample.

Anyway, Jupi, i whole-heartedly admire ye for showing us the very old and obsolete English-word usage.

You said " Compare these words Bye, Cheers, Farewell and Adieu. Which one is easy and which one is difficult. I hope Adieu is the most difficult for you and me" .

I don't make myself air Jupi, but  the words Adieu, Farewell and so on are a piece of cake for me, cos i meet them every minute.

Have funsss!

Dear yer all here,

I am really interested in this topic discussion. there are many differents kinda reading.

First, just read de books, not doing a reading test. As Kimlong and others have mentioned, i agree that v just need to read soundlessly! not speaking out loud de text we r reading. also, if u meet any unknown words v've neva met b4, just skip it or trying to understand it by de context, de words around dat unknow vocab.

Second, reading in de exam, eg: IELTS reading. it's extremely difficult. we need to understand de text also de words cuz we're not just reading, but v r gonna answers de questions related to de passages. so it's quite hard.... esp. de words. but like de words which are names of streets, city... i agree 60% dat they r somewhat difficult cuz sometimes v don recognise them...

Just sharing my ideas on this topic

Cheers,

Keo Kalyan

Hi Mana,

I do agree with what you said, cos I myself always get unsatisfactory scores through reading too. I am asking for helps from our other friends in this forum. Anyway, have you taken the IELTS test before? If you have, how was your reading band score? Was it ok or not?

I am going to take IELTS on 16th of September, so I am too terrify, cos I am not ready to sit testing room, I think.

Well, just endearor our study. Even if we can't succeed this time, we still have other opportunities to take that test again, right?
