Hi sansovanno,

You are not alone in feeling afraid to communicate with other people in English. We can have fear in all new situations. Or I can say that you are nervous in speaking English with them. English, as I think, perhaps is your first foreign language you practiced with the others. This means that you need to take some time to practice this, sometimes alone with yourself in front of a mirror or something else. You need to overcome this fear by first making yourself used to speaking to yourself (intra-communication). Start to take a deep breath before you speak to your friends. Make sure you think that mistakes don't matter, at least you can make yourself understood.  Grin

And again, my suggestion is that you are supposed to pratice it with yourself if you can't find a close friend you can pratice your English with. However if you can find that person, get started.

FEAR IS ONLY A RESPONSE TO AN UNFAMILIAR SITUATION.  Smiley

You are not alone! I myself, also face the same problem. To overcome this, we must try to talk with them as much as possible. But I know it is not easy; That is why I am going to introduce you to a new strategy!

First you need to have a big printed photo of whoever. Next, find a topic that you like to talk about. Finally, talk to the photo by trying to look at him or her in the eyes(this seems stupid, but I am sure that it helps).

Also remember that whenever you talk with foreigners try to look at them in the eyes. That sounds impolite in Khmer culture, but in most foreign cultures that means we are interested in what they are saying.

Ok, hope this help! Wink

Hello Friend

your problem was the same as my problem before. but from now , my problem had been a way. because i tried to push them away. i mean that i feel confident when i talk to native speaker , teacher and friends. you must think that English is same as speaking khmer when you speak it.

good luck with ur english

hi friend
You are quite the same as me. I used to be scared to speak when i was about 15 or 16 years of age. After i have practised with my teachers, native speakers, and my friends, i can find some improvement in my speaking skills. Of course, i believe, almost all of us do have fear when they speak with foreigners at the first time. Fear is always with us when speaking. That 's why, you should try to be yourself and control your shyness and fear. Pleas be natural when speaking. This is my way to make my speaking better. that's all from me and i hope we can discuss later about every problem. Honestly, i am a new member of this web, i think it is the best web.

i hope you can improve your speaking.

Speak at a speed that is natural to you and don't hesitate to ask them to slow down a bit if you are having trouble understanding them.  Wink

To me, i'm not also good at speaking either. And this is because i've got no confidence at all to speak. I usually have butterflies in the stomach whenever i speak. But having seen your many pieces of advice, i can make it, i believe. i'm learning English. Why can't i speak it?
