World Bank Essay ideas

Hey guys,

Hope that you find time to enter the World Bank Essay competition. There are 3 great prizes, each of over 1 million riel for the lucky best three essays. The competition was advertised last week in the Cambodia Daily and as far as I remember the title is "How can students make the government more accountable and effective". You will have to check the advertisement to find out about word limit and writing style, but I do remember that you can write it either in English or Khmer.

Here are 5 ideas for you to consider when you write this essay...

1. More students could consider entering politics as a career.
They could get involved at grass roots / local level and then be able to have
a voice as a part of the governent in order to encourage change.

2. Universities could invite more politicians to give speeches to students as
part of University programs or special events.
This would give both politicians and students a chance to interact and share
ideas as well as providing a forum for dialogue and debate.

3. Universities could set up degree programs to focus on Government
studies.
This would enable students to gain qualifications by academically
studying the process of governments all over the world.

4. Students could lobby the government by sending letters or emails to
their local politicians or MPs
This would allow politicians to receive feedback and good ideas from
students directly.

5. Universities could hold debating competitions between students from
different Universities along the theme of 'what I would do if I was the
government' and invite politicians to watch as guests of honour.
This would allow students to understand the difficulties and problems
faced by governments as well as giving them the opportunity to find
unique solutions to these problems.
